The Earth Remains

Humans are wrecking the environment that sustains us. We clear forests faster than they recover. We pour industrial waste, fertiliser and plastic into rivers and seas. We exhaust soils, break up habitats and drive out species to build roads, mines, farms and cities. Nature did not make these choices. We did.

Our economies reward extraction and hide the cost. We demand convenience, tolerate waste and treat endless growth as normal. Wealthy societies consume far beyond their needs, while poorer communities face polluted air, failed harvests, water shortages, fire and flood. Governments delay. Companies market small changes as transformation. Consumers are told that shopping differently can replace real reform. It cannot.

The blame is ours. We heat the climate, weaken ecosystems and intensify the effects of drought, storms and disease. We understand the damage but protect comfort, profit and political advantage instead of showing restraint. If human life becomes poorer, harsher and more divided, the Earth will not have betrayed us. We will have confused dependence with control.

A World That Has Never Stood Still

Our crisis is not the end of life. Earth has never stood still. Ice advances and retreats. Climates warm. Seas rise and fall. Continents shift. Species appear and disappear. Mass extinctions have destroyed whole branches of life, but never life itself. Survivors do not rebuild the old world. They adapt and create a new one.

That does not excuse destruction. Life may continue without us, but that gives us no right to make human existence harsher or wipe out other species. The lesson is blunt: we are not masters of the planet. We can change conditions, limit damage and act responsibly. We cannot force creation to remain as we want it.

The “Holy Cow” of Science

The problem worsens when people treat science as an untouchable authority rather than a method of inquiry. Good science tests claims, states uncertainty and corrects mistakes. Bad communication turns provisional models into unquestionable truth, stretches conclusions beyond the evidence and presents probability as certainty. A scientific label does not make false information true. A scientific error does not make the method worthless.

Do not worship science. Do not dismiss it. Ask what was observed, what was inferred, how strong the evidence is, who benefits from the claim and whether new evidence can change the conclusion. Scientists, politicians, campaigners and sceptics all need humility. No institution owns reality. No slogan can replace honest inquiry.

The Lesson

Humans have power, but not control. We can poison or restore a river. We can destroy or protect a habitat. We can increase or reduce suffering. We cannot guarantee permanence. Creation changes, and life adapts. Not every species survives. Not every loss is repaired. Life continues by becoming different.

The Earth remains. We must either live within its limits or leave future generations to learn how little control we ever had.

Creation, Accountability and Hope

The Bible’s creation account is direct: the earth exists for a purpose. Jehovah made it to be inhabited and gave perfect humans a home that could sustain them. He told them to fill the earth, cultivate it and care for its life. Adam and Eve rebelled, but God’s purpose did not change. The earth will still become the permanent home of righteous humanity.

That purpose makes us accountable. The earth is not ours to exploit without limit. It was placed in our care. Pollution, violence, greed and destructive rule do more than damage the environment. They defy its Creator. Human society cannot govern the planet wisely or secure lasting peace. No environmental program can undo every death, correct every injustice, or restore every loss.

Revelation 11:18 gives the verdict: God will “bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” He will not destroy the planet. “The earth remains forever.” The corrupt society that defies its Creator will not. The Flood removed a violent world, not the globe. God’s coming judgement will remove this ruinous system and make way for righteous rule.

We cannot stop the wind, end a drought by command or hold back a flood. We cannot master the forces that keep us alive. What hope, then, could we have of resisting their Creator? Human control is not the answer. God’s Kingdom is. As JW.org explains, it will replace failed human rule, fulfil God’s unchanged purpose and restore the earth.

The warning is urgent, but there is hope. Examine the evidence. Learn what the Bible teaches. Decide where you stand. Ignorance will not protect anyone from the consequences. Accurate knowledge can lead to faith, action, and a life aligned with the purpose that will remain after this society is gone.
